About

About

The Brodie family

The Brodie family have been in the Brockham area which is in the heart of the Surrey Hills since before 1845. Tim, who grew up two miles away in Betchworth, and his wife Julia Brodie purchased Feltons Farm in 1978, and the family farms have been managed by Andy Jackman since 1979 who has been integral to the success and development of the farming businesses. In 2000, Tim’s son Alex took over the farm operations and since then he has been joined in the business by his son Tom. Over the last twenty-five years, the farm business has diversified into processing biomass materials into wood chip and related materials. The development into making biochar is a natural add on to what we were already doing. Which is: taking locally sourced materials, creating a valuable product in the form of the biochar and biochar composts not only for our own uses (to increase the quality and yield of our crops and improve our land) but also to meet the ever-increasing demand from both the farming and gardening communities.

Our Mission

Our mission

To utilise locally sustainably sourced materials which have a low value use and convert into a higher value product that can be used locally. To conduct our businesses in an ethical way. To treat our customers and suppliers fairly. To continuously seek to reduce our carbon footprint.

Sustainably Sourced Materials in Agriculture and Farming

Sustainably sourced materials refer to resources that are harvested or produced in a way that minimizes negative environmental impact. In agriculture and farming, this concept involves using practices that maintain ecosystem health, conserve natural resources, and support local communities. Examples of sustainably sourced materials include organic crops, responsibly managed timber, and renewable energy from biomass.

Customer-Centric Approach

A farming company that treats its customers well fosters trust and loyalty. By providing excellent service, addressing customer needs, and maintaining transparent communication, the company can build lasting relationships. Whether it’s offering fresh produce, personalized advice, or community events, prioritizing customer satisfaction contributes to the overall success of the business.

The Importance of Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

Reducing our carbon footprint is crucial for several reasons:

  • Environmental Impact: High carbon emissions contribute to climate change, affecting weather patterns, ecosystems, and sea levels. By minimizing our footprint, we help protect the planet.
  • Health Benefits: Cleaner air and water result from reduced emissions, benefiting human health and well-being.
  • Economic Savings: Energy-efficient practices and sustainable choices often lead to cost savings for individuals, businesses, and governments.
  • Global Responsibility: As global citizens, we share the responsibility to preserve Earth for future generations.
